Hello Room 13 Families,
As per board policy, a very important 'Green Form' was sent home on Thursday. Please read it, sign it and send it in with your student on Monday. I forgot to write this on the board for homework, sorry for the Sunday email blast. :) Please email me if you have any questions or if you need a duplicate sheet. [email protected] Thanks in advance for your help with this matter, Madame Guy To help with your planning, below is a list of our PD days for rest of this school year.
Elementary
Our 'Super Golden Geese' are off and flying on another great adventure together. The end of 2018 saw so much to be proud of: students setting goals and crushing them. Leaders in training learning how to promote a school wide events and initiatives (Terry Fox Run, French Culture Friday announcements). An incredible Holiday performance that showcased our talents and showed what a wonderful T.E.A.M we are in room 13! I cannot wait to see what learning adventures we will have in 2019. A huge thank you to you, the parents, for your generous gifts and thoughtful cards. Miss Ree and I felt so grateful and also so guilty that time got away from us on that last day to write thank you cards. Please excuse our lapse in etiquette and know that we felt very appreciated and spoiled! :) Miss Ree had her baby, Madden Joshua William on Christmas Day! Both she and baby are doing well. She misses the class very much and will be visiting with Baby Madden in a few months. We welcome with a huge 'HONK' Ms. Boutilier. A kind and creative educator, who is thrilled to be working with us, Ms B. is the perfect addition to our flock of geese! :) Curriculum Connect:

Études Sociales: Grade 3s will continue to learn about Living and Working in Ontario and Grade 4s will continue to learn about “Political and physical regions of Canada.” Our class will perform tomorrow afternoon for parents. The show begins at 12 noon. I've attached the order of who presents in case you are dashing out on your lunch break and need to watch the clock! :)
Some pre-concert tips to help your child: 1. Quiet off stage ( stand frozen, in a 'mannequin challenge' stillness, when not dancing). 2. Show enthusiam and energy when on stage. 3. Have your costume with you the day of the show. 4. Have fun (when you are having fun, your audience will have fun too). 5. Eye contact. Look at your audience! Good eye contact engages your viewers and shows confidence! Secret Santa update:The students are having fun leaving clues for each other. Our Secret Santa gift exchange will happen on the last day of school, Friday December 21st. Please send your child's gift in anytime before then.
We have been working on our Holiday Dance. It will be a fabulous show and we cannot wait to present it to you! We have finalised our costumes and have come up with the following outfits below. Group 4- Future- Nutcracker Ballerinas -dance outfits -dance shoes (optional) -LED lights to go on outfits -hair pulled into high bun - make up Group 5- Narrators -Christmas outfits -Christmas hats/headbands/ bows Our dress rehearsal will be Wednesday December 19 and our performance will be Thursday, December 20th. Please have costumes ready for next Wednesday. They can stay at school until the big show to ensure that all the wonderful components are ready to go!
In math class, we have been working on money. We have had fun using coins (both classroom manipulatives and candy coins-fun!) to learn and explore the different ways we can represent values. Grade 3 curriculum states that students "estimate, count, and represent (using the $ symbol) the value of a collection of coins and bills with a maximum value of $10" Grade 4 curriculum states that students "read and represent money amounts to $100 (e.g., five dollars, two quarters, one nickel, and four cents is $5.59)" During our investigations, it has become clear that some students are still struggling with their French Numbers. Over the holidays, videos like the one below, would be a great way to review the numbers 1-100. Secret SantaFor one of our rock celebrations, our class will be having a 'Secret Santa' gift exchange. Notes when home asking for your permission to participate in the class event. One all the notes are returned, we will pull names from a box to see who each child will be matched up with. Please return the forms asap, or simply write a quick note in the planner saying 'yes' or 'no' for participation in the festive event.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, your child will be giving their 'special person' a clue. They need to write the name and/or number of their person on the clue so that our Mail delivery Elf knows which mailbox to put the clues in. :) Gifts will be exchanged on the last day of school, Friday December 21st. Our Pod had a wonderful time packing the boxes and creating Holiday cards to send away to Northern Ontario. One student said: "Hey Madame, it is like WE are Santa right now!". What a festive and impactful initiative. Thanks to YOU our elves for all the wonderful goodies! Family Night FunLast week was had our 2nd Annual Family Night. What a wonderful event. It was great to see everyone. Room 13 hosted "Life Gears Academy". We had a blast solving STEM challenges. Thanks for joining us!
Family Night is tonight from 6:00pm-7:30pm. There will be lots of great things to see and do: Storytime with 91.5 The Beat, S.T.E.M activities, games, bake sale, garage sale and fabulous door prizes! Looking forward to seeing you tonight!!
Yesterday, Franklin welcomed a guest speaker. The classes that were involved with hosting Comic Con, had a chance to meet Comic Guru, Jennifer Haines from The Dragon comic store.
Jennifer is a certified teacher and entrepreneur with a passion for comics. She opened her first Dragon comic store in 1998 and has grown her magical enterprise to 3 stores! Jennifer explained the comic making process and shared several of her favourite series. Jennifer inspired the students with her charismatic presentation and left Franklin wanting to either 'stop, drop and read a comic' or create another one of their own! What a wonderful way to close out our 2nd annual Comic Con learning adventure! The Dragon: http://www.dragonguelph.com/ Our "Pod3 Packing Party" is one week today! Donations have started to come in-thank you so much! " beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" We will continue to collect items, $5 shipping cost donations and shoe boxes all this week. Here is some more information about this wonderful initiative. Shoebox gifts: www.ilovefirstpeoples.ca/shoebox-gifts |
