Our class is off to the Symphony tomorrow! We will be leaving Franklin promptly at 9:40am. It is going to be an exciting morning! Check out the video below for a fun review of "Theatre etiquette": Sean Covey "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids" Dinner table (or driving) discussion: Talk about how planning ahead and setting goals helps us in all areas of our life (school, work, health, finances, etc). Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up...then explain the steps they will need to take to get there. Little goals pave the way for big dreams! :)
In our house, we set monthly goals. We share one thing we want to work on that month. By sharing our goals, family members are aware of how to help each other achieve their goals. Get ready to smile with some of the goals you will hear...ie: my 4 year old's goal last month was to brush his teeth every night! ;)
Our iWonder projects have been a huge success. Topics are chosen by the students and the manner of presentation style is flexible...from photo only to google doc slideshow (complete with video clips!). With each new project, it has been amazing to watch their research and presentation skills grow. Confidence abounds!
As part of my mission to take away the stigma of 'fear of public speaking' for my students, I've been showing the kiddos 'Ted Talks'. Why not expose them to these great ideas now? Let's plant the seed and watch our future leaders grow..... Check out the first Ted Talk we watched and have some fun with the 'vocal warm up exercises'. :) Copy and paste into your browser:

Franklin's Science Fair is tomorrow!
Here are a few timelines to help you organize your day: All participants can come and set up their projects from 8:30am-9:15am. The evening portion of the Science Fair will run from 6:00pm- 7:30pm. At the end of the day, participants can be picked up between 7:30pm and 8:00pm. Looking forward to a fabulous fair! Sean Covey "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids" Dinner table (or driving) discussion: If you are feeling bored, sad, frustrated...what can YOU do to take charge of your situation?
I find in our household, some of our best chats are in the car, around the dinner table or at tuck in. Finding a few quiet moments to check in with your child can help them process their day, celebrate their success and turn their failures into learning opportunities. ...bring May Flowers! As the plants outside are growing, so are our minds. Amazing learning adventures are happening in Room 5!
In class, the students have been a buzz working on their inquiry based iWonder projects. Be sure to ask them about it. We've learned about Forest Fires, Cats, Chocolate, Tsunamis and Ants to name a few! To begin 2017, we learned about the importance of goal setting, with a focus on 'S.M.A.R.T' goals. We read the book "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids" by Sean Covey and have been referring back to them regularly...stay tuned for posts about the '7 Habits'! :) A friendly reminder to please sign your child's agenda (planner) on a daily basis. Thanks! |
