On Tuesday, June 4th, we will be hosting an Ancient Civilization Museum with the rest of Pod 3. This is a day that students will come to school ready to act as Museum Curators. With a partner (or on their own), students are responsible for creating a slideshow presentation about an Ancient Civilization of their choice. They are also required to make two or three Ancient artifacts from the civilization. Students can make the artifacts from plasticine, cardboard, or any other materials that they can find. Students are encouraged to bring in any supplies that they may need (paint, tinfoil, hot glue). We will be working on our artifacts in class starting Monday May 27th. Students may also choose to make costumes to represent the civilization. For example, a group researching Ancient Greece may bring in a bed sheet to wrap around them as a Toga. Other students who will act as Museum Curators can dress in “formal wear”. Grade 3s will be researching Pioneers and joining in this 'Ancient Civilization' Museum fun! Parents are invited to visit our museum which will take place on June 4th from 12:30-1:30 p.m. EQAO will begin Wednesday, May 22nd and finish on Wednesday, May 29th.

If you would like to access it again, here is the address: www. eqao.com On testing days, your child will be writing with the other French Immersion grade 3s, in Room 8 for Maths and Room 9 for Language. This year, Franklin is trying something new and exciting for our grade 3 EQAO students. We will be spreading the testing out over 6 days instead of the usual 3. Your child will write one booklet during the first block of each of the 6 days. (9:20-11:20) We are very excited about this new idea, because it will give our little learners a chance to focus, do their best for a specific chunk of time...and then they get to resume the normal routine/structure of their day. Below is the testing game plan: Wed., May 22 Language Book A Thursday, May 23 Language Book B Fri., May 24 Math Book 1 Mon., May 27 Language Book C Tues., May 28 Language Book D Wed., May 29 Math Book 2 Nerves are a normal part of the process for our kiddos. The best thing we can do to help them is to encourage them. Encourage them to 'show what they know'. Encourage them to do their best. Encourage them to get a good night sleep each night before the test. Encourage them to have a positive attitude towards the testing. Encourage them to eat a nutritious breakfast each morning. A few details below: When: Friday, June 7th Time: 9:20-2:40pm Student cost: This year's trip has been subsidized by our pizza sales, so the cost for your child is only $2.00. Volunteers: Prithee, do join us dear lords and ladies. :) (Volunteers are zero shillings (free) and can ride on the caravan (bus) with us. Robin in the Hood is a very entertaining and fun event where students will get to participate in different activities just like Knights, Kings and Queens did in Medieval Times. Students will get to play medieval games, learn about Knight School, view birds of prey, learn to be a blacksmith and much more! *Students need to dress for the weather as this is an outdoor event. A hat and sunscreen is suggested! There are no water fountains on site, so it is imperative that students bring enough water for the day. Students are required to pack a litter-free lunch for the day.* *It is very important that students are 5 minutes early for school on June 7th. Students who ride the bus to school will know to come directly into the office when they arrive. We would like to leave as close to 9:20 a.m. as possible so that we can be there for the beginning of the Festival.* Dear Families:
Our class will be having a Potluck lunch to celebrate all of our hard work. With only one more 'Rock Bucket' to go until 'Mega Party status', the class is buzzing with excitement. Teamwork, Initiative and being our 'best selves' have been on the radar and WOW have your kiddos really stepped up! We love to learn together, laugh together and feast together! Here are the details: When: Friday, May 17th Time: 1 st NB 11:20am-12:00 noon To help avoid 22 desserts, below is a suggestion that has worked in the past: Students #1-8 please bring an appetizer (ie: carrots and celery, cheese, etc) Students #9-17 please bring a main (mini pizzas, piggies in a blanket, etc) Students #18-22 please bring a dessert or drink (fruit, jello, cookies, juice boxes) |
