Halloween is tomorrow! Room 5 has been working on several 'spooktacular' activities for the past week. Stunning pumpkins, fun masks and creative monsters abound! Be sure to check out our photo section tomorrow!
Costumes: students may arrive in costume or change as soon as they get to school, whatever works better for you and your kiddo. As always, Franklin has a no weapon and no mask rule. Students who have costumes that involve weapons or masks are asked to leave them at home. Snacks: we ask that no snacks are brought to school for Halloween. Room 5 will be hosting a potluck in the near future (date to be announced shortly), please save your contribution for then. Thanks! :) WRDSB message: The Waterloo Region District School Board released a memo regarding Halloween: Board Message on Website Halloween is just around the corner and this day that can be filled with excitement for many children. Halloween is often recognized with costumes and school activities, however, it is important that schools continue to create a sense of belonging for each and every student. We recognize that not all families celebrate Halloween. October 31 is a school day like any other, and we want families to feel that they can send their children to school without disruption. Teachers will offer activities that include all students, whether they are celebrating Halloween or not. CostumesIf you do decide to send your child off to school in a costume on Halloween, please check with your school on any guidelines they may have provided. Any costumes worn at school must be appropriate and respectful of others. If something is representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs, then it should not be worn as another person’s costume. Also please be aware that, for safety reasons, we do not allow children or adults to wear masks or to carry plastic weapons. Weapons, real or fake, are not to be brought to school on any day; Halloween is not an exception. Our students come first and we are committed to creating safe and caring school communities. On Halloween and every day, let’s continue to create an environment where every child feels included, valued and treated with dignity. If you walk by room 5 on a Friday morning, chances are you will see epic dance moves as students (and teacher lol) are enjoying French Culture "Much Music" video style. For those of us of a certain age, we can remember the thrill of a good music video when we turned to channel 24 or to CityTV. Friday nights could be counted on for "Electric Circus" and weekends were the "Much Music Countdown". Using more than one sense to experience music can be powerful and nowadays we have Google, Youtube and Vimeo to thank for our music videos. Below are the first few songs we've been using in class. They have been creative launching points for lessons, the soundtrack to our Terry Fox assembly and a time to enjoy French Culture. :) |
